Captain America: The stateside comic book hero, most recently featured in US TV specials, returns to the big screen

SOME will be unmissable, others unendurable and the majority just somewhere in between.

After the sizzling box office success of Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, there are more comic book adaptations in the pipeline along with pirate capers, alien epics and vampire spectaculars.[>

Here Daily Star film critic ALAN FRANK reveals the top 12 movies he is looking forward to seeing, with superhero flicks leading the way.[>

1. Green Lantern : Ryan Reynolds masks up and goes green to play a test pilot who is endowed with mystical superhero powers by the strange ring he is given. He sets out as the Green Lantern to keep peace in the universe.[>

2. X-Men : The extraordinary mutants come back in X-Men: First Class with Michael Fassbender as Magneto and James McAvoy as Xavier discovering their unique special powers when they were young men.[>

3. Pirates Of The Caribbean : Johnny DeppÂ’s Captain Jack Sparrow returns as chirpy as ever to tangle with Ian McShaneÂ’s buccaneer Blackbeard and his daughter in more swashbuckling in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.[>

4. Harry Potter : If you havenÂ’t had your fill of the Hogwarts wizard, then Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint return with more special effects magic in the final film in the series, Harry Potter And The Deadly Hallows: Part 2.[>

5. Transformers : Shia LaBeouf is ready to tangle with the mighty metal machines again as mankind is faced once more with awesome Autobots and deadly Decepticons in the wild adventure Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.[>

6. Twilight : Being in love means never having to say: “I want to drink your blood.” Expectant parents Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s unborn child is targeted by dark forces in The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn: Part 1.[>

7. The Green Hornet : Newspaper publisher by day and masked avenger by night, Seth Rogen, accompanied by martial arts expert Jay Chou, pictured right, will hope to sting the box office. Cameron Diaz adds glamour.[>

8. Three Musketeers : You canÂ’t keep a celluloid swordsman down. The Three Musketeers erupt onto the screen again to save the throne of France. Matthew Macfadyen leads the pack while Milla Jovovich catches the eye.[>

9. Batman : Three years after The Dark Knight was released, the Caped Crusader played by Christian Bale is back to protect Gotham City from evil in The Dark Knight Rises. Michael Caine joins in again as Alfred.[>

10. Cowboys & Aliens : The title says it all. When an alien spaceship lands in 19th century Arizona to enslave mankind, all that stands in their way is a posse of cowboys headed by Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Sam Rockwell. .[>

11. Captain America : The stateside comic book hero, most recently featured in US TV specials, returns to the big screen with Chris Evans doubling as Steve Rogers and the invincible hero in Captain America: The First Avenger.[>

12. Thor : Powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is thrown out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live among humans. But is he downhearted? No! Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, becomes a mighty defender instead.
