Video game roundup : Kingston Highlights

The superhero game that'll end 'em all. Batman : Arkham City.

‘Tis the season to be jolly eh? Well, no matter what you say, I’m not going caroling, I am hunkering down in my bedroom, with the blinds closed, the lights off and scouring the internet for details on future games. When you play hardcore, you need to search for information hardcore, and when you do that, you get something that looks like this.

What does PS3 need? It needs a good old Third Person Shooter. The over the shoulder genre really gets no credit, and when people play it, they just go “meh, CoD’s better.” In the case of Uncharted? It’s just as the guy in the commercials says, “it’s like watching a movie.” The game, which was announced at VGA 2010, is being developed by Naughty Dog, the minds most famous for the original  games, and now the Uncharted series. The game will grace the shelves of gamers, in November 2011. Don’t get your hopes up though, release dates are likely to sway when projected this far in the future.

When BioWare announces that your favorite RPG is getting another sequel, you squeal like a pig at a slaughterhouse! Mass Effect 3 has outlined goals that will improve the gaming. The three goals mentioned are:

3) More Complex Enemies.

Well, look at it like this, even if these goals are outlined, one hopes that BioWare can see what its fans truly want. We want the third installment to not come out in “Holiday 2011″. If this message were written in the sky, many-a-gamers would charge to their lawns, not even bothering to pause, and shake their fists at the sky.  So close, yet so far away. *Darth Vader Breath*

Bethesda. They should be proudly called the Kings of the Current RPG age. They do it the best, and that’s final. Period. I walk out of the room. The masterminds responsible for Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas, along with the Elder Scrolls series (more notably, Oblivion and Morrowind) present Skyrim. You want more information right? Trust me, I’d love to give it to you, but in this instance, we’ll all have to wait with our gasps of excitement until the official Skyrim exclusive comes out in Game Informer next month. Until then, you can watch the exclusive trailer, as shown at  VGA 2010.

What’s that? You already knew about Portal 2 ? You say that they announced it at E3 2010? Well? What do I have to say about this? One word. Co-Op. Besides the fact that it has been pushed forward from its original February release, the installation of a Co-Operative system, makes me giggle like a school girl. Now, I can seek the cake, (which I hear is moist and delicious) with a friend? IT MAKES ME HAPP-EH!

Is he nuts? No. He’s INSANE. THQ’s vice president Danny Blisso, is insane. THQ announced at VGA 2010, that they are releasing a trilogy of video games called Insane. Each game is a chapter of the story, and the games will span “eight to ten years” to develop. That’s…..great. On top of all of that, the first game isn’t even due for release until 2013. Okay…..is there a point? NO! No details are available what so ever. This is what we call a teaser. The sad thing is, with no information given at all, and no back story to this nameless, faceless title, people will forget and lose interest which will hurt the game come sales time.

I LOVE TWISTS. The sequel to Prototype is unsurprisingly named Prototype 2. That’s not the twist. This is the twist, you’re not playing as the now famed, Alex Mercer. You play as Sgt. James Hellen, who returns home from the war, to find that he has lost all that he had ever loved. He becomes infected, and goes on a mission. He wants blood. He wants revenge. He wants to kill, Alex Mercer. The game will launch in 2012, but even the teaser trailer will be enough to spark my interests for now. Killing Alex Mercer? What a concept!

Snowboarding? What’s cool about snowboarding? SSX  is whats cool about snowboarding!! This game is rumored to let you brave the elements, and “board down every mountain range.” Well, what do they mean by every mountain range. I’m not too sure, because aside from the flash of the blade logo appearance at the end of the teaser trailer, shown at VGA 2010, there’s really nothing to go on.  For those of you who seek a more hardcore snowboarding experience, but don’t have the skills to pursue it, if you got time wait around for this game to come out. Don’t expect it for this wintry wonderland season though, as no details were given.

Well, this game was announced with a teaser trailer at a VGA some years ago. The promise made was that “…… Batman now has to go onto the Joker’s turf, and fight him in his element.” This promise made me replay Batman: Arkham Asylum some 3 or 4 times. Achievements? Of course, I got all the Achievements. The current trailer is done in CGI, and has a projected release for November 2011. Since Batman is my favorite superhero of all time, by far beating the Green Hornet, I will have my copy reserved well in advance. For those of you who can’t make out the eccentric man in the white lab coat, it is one of Batman’s earliest nemesis, Doctor Hugo Strange. The look in Batman’s eyes at the end, no matter how brief, sends a shiver down my spine all the same.
