The Hornbeck Lady Hornets had battled back to claim the lead at the end of the fifth inning.
But seven errors in the final two innings proved to be too much to overcome.
The Pitkin Lady Tigers remained undefeated in District 5-B play on Monday, scoring 12 runs in the final two innings to capture a 16-6 victory over the homestanding Lady Hornets.
Pitkin is now 10-9-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play. The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday at Singer.
Hornbeck lost for the first time in its last 12 games, falling to 14-4-1 on the season. The Lady Hornets, who host Fairview on Thursday, are 5-2 in district, tied for second place with Simpson.
The Lady Tigers claimed the early lead after getting two quick outs to open the game.
After Hornbeck pitcher Tori Prell fanned Anjelica Cruz and Tori Byrd, Amber Johnson worked the count to 2-2 before depositing the next pitch over the fence in left field for a 1-0 Pitkin lead. It was the first homer of her career.
Hailee Anding drew a walk and Kristen Roshong reached on single to center. However, the ball got past the defender and Anding hustled around to score, giving Pitkin a 2-0 lead.
A little later, Ali Merchant singled to right to score Roshong, pushing Pitkin out to an early 3-0 advantage.
Hornbeck answered with a couple of runs of its own in the bottom half.
Caitlyn Gentry singled and took second when Andrea Garrett grounded out. After another out, Prell was hit by a Merchant pitch to give the Lady Hornets a couple of runners.
Haley Brister followed with a two-run double to the left centerfield fence, scoring both Gentry and Prell, cutting the deficit to a run, 3-2.
The game remained locked at that count until the top of the fourth.
Angelina Dauzat connected on a leadoff single and eventually scored on a Megan Woods' single to left, giving Pitkin a 4-2 lead.
But Hornbeck rallied in the fifth to claim the advantage.
Hannah McDaniel legged out an infield single to open the frame and advanced to second on an error, which allowed Gentry to reach.
After a Garrett sacrifice moved the runners, Nikki Manes smacked a two-run double to the fence in left field, allowing the Lady Hornets to tie it up at 4-4.
On the ensuing play, Prell grounded out to Merchant, which allowed Manes to reach third and make the turn for home. Anding fired from first to third to try to get Manes, but the ball got away, allowing Manes to slide in safely at home to give Hornbeck its first lead of the game, 5-4.
But Pitkin responded in the next inning by scoring four runs, taking advantage of three Lady Hornet errors, giving the Lady Tigers the lead again, this time at 8-5.
Hornbeck managed to get a run back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lady Hornets were still on the short end of the stick, 8-6, but still in the hunt.
But the wheels soon came off the bus as four errors allowed Pitkin to score eight runs, pushing the Lady Tiger lead to 16-6. A total of 12 batters came to the plate in the seventh, but only three managed hits, one of which was a two-run single by Cruz.
The Lady Hornets were unable to muster any offense in the seventh, allowing Pitkin to come away victorious.
Merchant gave up six runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. She had two hits, an RBI and a run scored to aid her own cause.
Cruz went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Loran Nolen was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Johnson had just one hit, the home run, but scored three runs.
Prell suffered the loss, giving up 16 runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts and six walks.
Nikki Manes was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Brister was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
