Garmin nьvi 350 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This review is from: Garmin nьvi 350 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)

I've used this GPS extensively over the past month and I'm really pleased with my purchase. This unit has some definite advantages over other GPS units that I've seen. The most important is probably that it announces street names. For example, it will tell you to "Turn left onto Main Street in .3 miles," not just "Turn left in .3 miles." If you don't know an area, that's a real advantage. The GPS units that don't tell you street names can leave you wondering, did it mean turn at this light or the last light? If you do make a mistake, it immediately alerts you by announcing "Recalculating!" and then gets you back on your route. The unit is small enough to be hand-held and can be used by pedestrians as well (although I have not tested this). The screen is small, but easy to see. The GPS units with larger screens give you more lateral view, but this doesn't seem too helpful since you're always traveling forward, not sideways. All the maps are preprogrammed, so you're ready to go anywhere in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico, although I've only tested my unit in the US. Its knowledge of the all the streets is pretty amazing. Even tiny little alleys and side streets are recognized by the unit. The unit does have a little trouble finding your destination sometimes. It will get you very close, but is sometimes confused in the last few hundred feet. This is particularly true for large parking lots, like around shopping malls. These are not apparently mapped into the program and the device will show you driving through vast nothingness as you travel through a large parking lot. Equally, on the return trip, the device will sometimes be confused by the parking lot. It once told me to "Drive .3 miles and make a U-turn" in a parking lot. What would be the point of that? However, once you've gotten yourself out of the parking lot and onto a road, it doesn't fail to lead you on your way. I'm very pleased with this purchase and recommend it without reservations for anyone looking for a reliable and reasonably priced GPS navigator.
