LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- This time last year, "Inglourious Basterds" star Christoph Waltz kicked off what ended up being an awards season sweep with a win at the Critics' Choice Awards.

He's back on the big screen on Friday, where he's taken aim at a very different type of movie genre.
Christoph Waltz blasts his way into the new action filled movie "The Green Hornet."
Waltz plays Benjamin Chudnofsky, the head of Los Angeles' gritty underworld, and a man with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
It was almost exactly one year ago that the actor waltzed his way into a major career boon.
He'd been acting in Europe for 25 years, but it was his sweep of last year's awards season for his work in "Inglourious Basterds" that afforded Waltz the chance to venture into many more, and many different, types of films.

"It's made a big difference, of course, obviously. I don't know whether it's made all the difference in the world, but in my world, it's made almost all the difference," said Waltz. "The most drastic, most prominent change in my life... my dance card is filled with one fascinating thing after another. I still can't believe my luck."
Waltz has another film due in April with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson called "Water for Elephants."
