Entertainment links: 'The Wild Within,' the Green Hornet's car; Eminem and Taylor Swift; and midlife crises

Looking at entertainment news around the state and nation, a Michigan native will host a new Travel Channel show, The International Auto Show will showcase a superhero's car, TV's portrayal of midlife crises have gotten more serious, Americans watch a lot of TV, a compilation of works by Spanish-speaking writers has been released and Eminem and Taylor Swift buck the trend of fans turning to digital means to listen to their songs.

The Muskegon Chronicle has a story about Michigan native Steven Rinella hosting "The Wild Within," a new series on the Travel Channel premiering Sunday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m.

The Detroit Free Press reports that The Green Hornet’s automobile, Black Beauty, will be on display at the North American International Auto Show, which opens to the public on Jan. 15. "The Green Hornet," starring Seth Rogen, will open in theaters on Jan. 14.

The Daily Beast has an article about in the recent influx of shows dealing with men's midlife crises, such as TNT's "Men of Certain Age."

The New York Times reports that Americans watched more television than ever in 2010, with viewership of both broadcast networks and basic cable channels growing, but broadcast networks average twice as many views as the largest basic cable channel.

The Daily Beast writes about Granta magazine's "The Best of Young Spanish-Language Novelists," a recently-published compilation of works by Spanish-speaking writers born no earlier than 1975. Yes, the stories have been translated.

The Los Angeles Times has a story about Eminem and Taylor Swift managing to sell 4.5 million and 4.3 million albums respectively, despite a growing number of consumers turning to free and legal ways of listening to hit songs whenever they want.

Dave Berry, best known for his syndicated humor column which ran from 1983 to 2005, still maintains a blog , which is worth a look at. Most of what is posted are links to news articles from around the world that are sent to him by readers. Occasionally he'll pop in and say something snarky, though.
