One of the biggest movies aiming to brawl in the upcoming take-no-prisoners Summer movie season, The Green Lantern is finally starting to ramp up the teasers and promo materials. Fans of the DC comic book series are wondering how canon the makers of the movie will be considering the challenge of bringing not only the titular character of Hal Jordan, aka The Green Lantern (played by Ryan Reynolds), to the big screen but how they might portray the 3,600 strong Green Lantern Corps. The recent trailer, released in mid-November, alluded to more than just an earth-based story (collective relief from fandom), and even gave a glimpse of some of the other members of the corps.
Now, Collider.com reports that the latest issue of the Green Lantern comic book has a special movie feature that focuses on Tomar-Re (the peaceful, detail-oriented protector of the Book of Oa and mentor to Hal Jordan). Check out the image below. From the care with which the teaser materials are being handled, it looks like director Martin Campbell is on the way to making a fan-worthy adaptation.
Over at Marvel Studios the rumor mill is working overtime with word that sometime-Disney-darling, Demi Lovato, might be joining the cast of the Avengers. That rumor didn't last more than a day before reps from both Marvel and Lovato said the story was patently false.
While we don't disagree that adding some more XX chromosomes to the very testosterone-laden cast couldn't hurt (Scarlett Johansson's newly single status notwithstanding) adding a Lovato, Lohan, or Cyrus to the mix wouldn't sit right with the ensemble that Marvel has put together.
Director Joss Whedon has stated that the movie "is going to have only one female avenger" and if that has changed and with an April production start date looming news will likely be dropping soon of any new casting additions.
And in the continuing epic spin that is the Green Hornet production, Seth Rogen spoke to ContactMusic to further explain how Green Hornet is not your conventional super hero.
"He's not a hero in any way that you would expect him to be a hero, in any way, shape or form. He's really not that awesome when you meet him, I have to say. He's kind of a douchebag. A somewhat entertaining douchebag, but a douchebag all the same.
Rogen, who co-wrote the script with long-time collaborator Evan Goldberg, wants movie-goers to expect a different kind of hero convention.
"In our approach, the relationship is the superpower. Alone these guys are kind of nothing, but together they're able to accomplish things that no mere mortal ever could."
The Michel Gondry directed movie will hit theaters on January 14th and co-stars Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz.
