The poster for “The Roommate” reads “2,000 colleges. 8 million roommates. Which one will you get?”
My guess? The crazy one.
“The Roommate” is a creepy horror thriller aimed at teen audiences about a college student who discovers her new roommate is not exactly best friend material.
Rated PG-13, “The Roommate” is one of two movies that opened at Boaz 9 Cinema this weekend.
The other one is “Sanctum,” an R-rated adventure about an underwater cave-diving team that encounters life-threatening dangers during an expedition.
Upcoming events at Reliving the Memories Dinner Theater in Sardis City:

Exorcism thriller “The Rite” starring Anthony Hopkins possessed the top spot at the North American box office, opening with $14.7 million last weekend.

Action romp “The Mechanic” ($11.4M) starring Jason Statham debuted in third place.
Superhero action comedy “The Green Hornet” ($11.1M) dropped two slots to No. 4 in its third weekend.

DVD and Blu-ray: “Let Me In.” A bullied lonely boy befriends a girl vampire who lives in quiet desperation with her guardian. This bleak drama features outstanding performances by child actors Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz.
Also out on DVD and Blu-ray this week:
• “Conviction.” Hilary Swank stars in the true story of a single mother who works her way through law school so she can represent her brother, wrongfully convicted of murder.
• “Alice in Wonderland: 60th Anniversary Edition.” The Walt Disney animated version of the classic Lewis Carroll novel.
CD: “The JaneDear Girls.” On their debut album, The JaneDear Girls deliver energetic confections from a decidedly country girl perspective. This duo’s brand of country sounds like Taylor Swift as they dish on boyfriends while enjoying sweet redemption when the guys realize their mistakes after the breakups. Features singles “Wildflower” and “Shotgun Girl.”
Also out on CD this week:
• “Musica+Alma+Sexo.” Mostly Spanish language pop by Ricky Martin.
• “Live Forever.” 1980 concert in Pittsburgh by reggae legend Bob Marley and the Wailers.
• “The Best of … The Great American Songbook.” Highlights from Rod Stewart’s first five “Songbook” albums.

• “Black Rivers Flow.” Heavy metal by Lazarus A.D.
• “Hymns from the Hills.” Pure gospel bluegrass by Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers.
SONG: “Hidden Away.” A gorgeous ballad by vocalist Josh Groban about “a secret dreamer that never shows.” The urgency of the lyrics transforms the song into a prayer as the narrator implores the unseen wonder to “reveal your love. Please don’t keep your love hidden away.”
Country fans may enjoy “If I Run,” a tender ballad by family trio The Harters. A woman “shattered and healed” and “searching for something that’s real” asks her new love, “If I run, will you run after me? If I walk, will you wait patiently? If I fall, will you have sympathy?” “If I Run” is the highest debuting single on the Billboard Country Songs Chart this week.
BEST LINE I HEARD IN A SONG THIS WEEK: “The winding roads that led me here burn like coal and dry like tears.” “My Father’s Father” by The Civil Wars.
