Over the years, I've interviewed quite a few actors who have put on the tights and played superheroes. Here are some of their thoughts on their alter identities:
"I know I'm biased, but Batman had the best villains. We had legendary stars like Vincent Price (as Egghead) and Burgess Meredith (as the Penguin). My personal favorite, of course, was Julie Newmar as Catwoman. She gave me curious stirrings in my utility belt!"
-- Adam West, who played the title character on Batman
"Superman would change into street clothes and glasses, the weakest disguise ever, and Lois Lane couldn't make the connection. Lois was supposed to be a savvy newspaper reporter, but I had my doubts about her. "
-- Noel Neill, Lois Lane on The Adventures of Superman
"I still have one of my old Wonder Woman costumes. I think it's the most interesting of all the superhero costumes. But I never feel the temptation to try it on again. That would be a little bit sad, don't you think?"
"Anywhere I go, people will recognize me and start serenading me with the Batman theme music."
"I meet women today who tell me they grew up viewing Batgirl as an important role model. Imagine that! They became doctors and lawyers, they were inspired to aim for something higher in life, because I played a caped hero in a silly TV series."
"The way Christopher Reeve played Clark Kent is not the way I played Clark Kent. I had a different take from the get-go: Superman was who Christopher Reeve's character was. Clark Kent was my character."
-- Dean Cain, Clark Kent/Superman on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
