Fans of Chinese martial arts films might recognize the name Chen Zen. He was first portrayed by Bruce Lee in the 1972 film Fist of Fury , also known as The Chinese Connection . He's also appeared in various TV shows, and again in film in the 1994 Jet Li film Fist of Legend . In the latest TV series he was played by Donnie Yen , and he again takes on the role for the film Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zen .
Donnie Yen seems to be the go-to guy for martial arts films these days. He brings a sort of raw emotion to his action scenes that you rarely see (check outfor a good example), as well as having quite a bit of acting talent. This film seems to be a bit more of the high-flying variety of martial arts movies, but it still looks like a great time.
Legend of the Fist is directed by Andrew Lau , and takes place in 1925 Shanghai. This time, Chen dons a mask and fights crime by night (looking a bit like Kato from the Green Hornet if you ask me), and comes to select US theaters April 22nd. Please let it come to Phoenix!
