NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat smashes its way into stores on April 19, 2011 in North America (April 21st in the UK), and judging from the new trailer provided by Joystiq , it’s going to pack a definite punch, as well as get everyone primed for the upcoming “live-action digital new media series.”
To add a little something extra to the core philosophy of “I beat the s*** out of you and then I rip your head off,” the new Mortal Kombat includes the “Challenge Tower”, a set of 300 missions in which players must master many of the game’s mechanics. Not only do you test your might and your sight, but you also have the chance to test your luck, which could have you fighting upside-down, without arms, or even without a head.
The 300th mission is called End Game, and the gauntlet has been thrown down with this one. Senior designer Mike Birkhead says there’s a special prize for whoever makes it through #300 and Jay Biondo, Lead Software Engineer of gameplay, says he wants to see a dedicated MK player make it through the final mission with one try, one character, and a full life-bar. Will you be the one to show him it can be done?
