Well, the wait is over. I've resurfaced.
Since my last cast for Excalibur, I reached my limit for uploading images on Photobucket, and if I wanted to upgrade to Pro to upload more, I'd have to pay. So, adding to the fact that I've got an X-Men reboot on the way where - get ready DDD - I'll cast Christian Kane as Wolverine, I decided to start over.
For this new fancast. I've recently got Photoshop, and with the help of Photobucket, I was able to create some unique collages and make some surprisingly stylish font designs. Plus I have more access to the fonts I want, rather than relying on a minimal set.
Now, this new first fancast I've got here is that of Secret Avengers. I know a couple people tried fancasts based on the various series of Heroic Age comics, so I decided to whip up my own. So hopefully this will make up for a month-long absence. Enjoy!
SECRET AVENGERS
After the Dark Reign of Norman Osborn and his Dark Avengers, Steve Rogers is called on again for duty, but now as America's new Top Cop. Steve accepts the job and assembles two new teams. The Avengers under Maria Hill's command and the Secret Avengers for covert missions under Steve's direct command.
Beast seems to be the tech and intel part of the Secret Avengers as he is seen in the first issue of the title inspecting a similar crown to the serpent crown and also and researching things on the serpent crown and similar things via hacking in to with help from Ant-Man and Moon Knight.
Here is a choice that I'm sticking with since I swapped Kelsey Grammer for the X-Men 4 fancast (although news reports are saying that we may see the X-Men movie franchise continue after all). I also want to give a shout out to Killik13 for inspiring me with this choice after seeing his unorthodox, but fearless X-Men fancast. Not only does Keifer fit the characteristics of normal Beast, but he would be amazing when the furry X-Men goes dark after being corrupted by Apocalypse.
Steve Rogers asked Rhodes to be a member of Rogers' strike force known as the Secret Avengers. Rhodes accepted Rogers' offer.
After Norman Osborn caused the destruction of Asgard, Brunnhilde was personally invited to join the Secret Avengers by Captain Rogers. As a member of the Secret Avengers, Valkyrie has participated in their mission to Mars and their mission to the Far East. During their mission to the Far East, she battled the Super Soldier John Steele and defeated him by impaling him with her enchanted sword Dragonfang. Also, along with the other Avenger teams, she confronted the Illuminati and subsequently hunted for the Hood who had begun to steal the Infinity Gems from their hiding places. During the pursuit, they find the Hood who waves his hand, containing three of the gems, and all the Avengers disappear, leaving only Valkyrie's sword.
With Yvonne Strahovski - my pick for Mockingbird - supposedly in talks to play Ms. Marvel in The Avengers, it's time to find Ali Larter, undisputed fan favorite, another role. And what better role it'd be than that of Valkyrie. While older than Chris Hemsworth (both Val and Thor have a thing), Ali knows her way around action, and looking at the collage of Valkyrie and Ali Larter from Stoned Age, she has the look down.
Moon Knight was approached by Steve Rogers and he asked him to join the Secret Avengers to find his redemption. Moon Knight agrees to this and his first mission was to go after Captain Barracuda who was capturing Oil Tankers. Moon Knight proved himself to the team by saving them and the Tanker crew when Captain Barracuda used the Horn of Proteus to summon sea monsters and destroying the Oil Tanker. Next, Moon Knight infiltrated Roxxon headquarters with fellow Avenger, Ant-Man. They then had to travel to Mars to rescue another teammate, Nova who was looking for the Serpent Crown. The team split up and Moon Knight was accompanied by Black Widow and Valkyrie to look for Nova. When they found him he is wearing the Serpent Crown and he also detected their presence. He and Black Widow were knocked unconscious when they confronted Nova. After the threat on Mars, the team went back to Earth and continues their objective of finding out who is trying to steal the Serpent Crown and why they want it.
I've actually considered to recast Moon Knight with a different actor. I've thought of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but seeing as he's been typecast in too many CBM fancasts, and he's overstayed his welcome in the CBM movie universe (though him playing Thing wouldn't be a bad idea), I decided to stick with my original choice. Goran Visnjic is a talented actor with a voice that can bring Moon Knight to life.
Black Widow joins the Secret Avengers team and goes with them on their first mission to investigate Roxxon activity, a trail that leads them to Mars. Finding that Roxxon had been searching for a set of artifacts similar to the Serpent Crown for the Shadow Council, the team confront the Council forces and then a possessed Nova who had been compelled to put on one of the crowns. Nova easily knocks out Black Widow and Moon Knight, but in the final battle the team are able to defeat Nova when Steve Rogers puts on the Nova Worldmind helmet.
Forced through mind control to kill Steve Rogers, Sharon Carter decided to leave S.H.I.E.L.D. but joined Steve's Secret Avengers when he returned to life.
Just caught Maggie in Faster where her character is learning how to handle a gun. I think that means she's ready to try out some action, and Sharon Carter would be the grounds to walk in. It's not that hard, some of the roles she's played are practically blueprints for the dramatic depth for Sharon.
As a member of Steve Rogers' new team of Secret Avengers, Eric now wears Hank Pym (the original Ant-man)'s old costume. Though he still has a lot of selfish acts to redeem, Eric is trying to become a better person and maybe even a hero in the process.
It's up in the air whether or not I'll get alot of flack for this. But in my opinion, Nick Swardson's one of the most underrated comic actors out there. In films like Grandma's Boy and Just Go With It, Swardson can be quite a great actor as well as a joke-slinging machine. Such a talent like this would be invaluable for a role like Eric O'Grady.
Steve Rogers asks Nova to join the Secret Avengers and he accepts. Nova's first job was to go to Mars and investigate recent mining activity by Roxxon. While there he runs into trouble and is attacked. He flees and tries to find safety but ends going through a cavern. In the cavern lies the Serpent crown. Worldmind warns Nova to stay back because of the energy signature given off by the crown. Richard ignores the warning, being drawn to it by the Crown's power, and removes his Nova helmet. He puts on the Serpent Crown and becomes possessed by it.
Steve Rogers decides to put on the Nova helmet to use the Nova Force and stop the possessed Richard Rider and his followers. Steve succeeds and Richard is freed from the control of the crown. After Worldmind gives Richard his powers back, Nova receives a distress call from the Guardians of the Galaxy and must leave the Secret Avengers for the time being.
While some people want Garrett to play Havoc (i.e. future TANKGIRL in the making Mistress Kizuna and master caster extraordinaire DDD), to me, he's my choice to play universal top cop Nova. Not only is he young enough, but he did well testing the grounds of science fiction in Tron: Legacy, which I can't wait to see on Blu-Ray, and his overall talents would be good fitting the story of a possible adaptation of Annihilation if Marvel Studios ever considers it.
Oh, and I credit DanielThomasRandKai for this casting choice, since he thought of it first for his Annihilation cast a year back.
In the second storyline in the 2010 volume "Secret Avengers", Prince of Orphans serves as a temporary member of the team, on behalf of Steve Rogers who had recruited Prince of Orphans at some unrevealed point, as a special operative to deal with and report back on threats in his homeland. He assists the Secret Avengers in their battle against Fu Manchu, defending Shang-Chi from being sacrificed in a ritual that would restore Fu Manchu to life and full power.
This was a tough one to cast, since I don't know the character that well. However, the character looked oddly similar to Ed Harris, so that's where I came to the decision to cast him. It doesn't hurt, though, that he's a great actor who could nail the role.
SHADOW COUNCIL
Aloysius was born in the 1800's. The son of a wealthy man in the south, his father helped fund the Confederate Army of the United States while Aloysius served as a Major against the Union. After the Confederate defeat and his family nearly bankrupt, he and his colleagues were on a search for a Union spy. While following him, he touched a being known as the Abyss, described as a dormant power of the universe and 'the darkness inside the darkness.'
Over 150 years later, Aloysius is the director of an organization known as the Shadow Council.
For his Secret Avengers cast, DDD says that this character was modeled after Clint Eastwood, and he eventually cast lookalike Keith Carradine as the character. I don't know, to me, William Fichtner has more of a resemblance. It may not be a big role, but Fichtner is such a terrific actor (watch Prison Break from season 2 and beyond) that it shouldn't matter in the end.
Max Fury is a life model decoy prototype that is able to think for himself. He was reprogrammed using the Zodiac Key and is unique among LMDs because he does not have any AI programming.
They didn't have a Max Fury in the Ultimate universe, so I just used the Nick Fury collage, and replaced Nick's name with Max.
Rumored to have been a fighting American soldier since the days of the Civil War, John Steele developed powers through unknown means that greatly enhanced his physical strength and nullified the aging process. He went on to join the United States Army and fought in World War I as Private John Steele. He ended up being captured by the Germans, who kept him in stasis to study him in the years after the war. The research scientists conducted on him would later result in the experiments that created Captain America and Luke Cage.
In the 21st century, John operates as a high ranking member of the Shadow Council. This was discovered by Steve Rogers and his Secret Avengers, who had stumbled onto the Shadow Council's activities while investigating the suspicious actions of Roxxon on Mars.
Dealing with the Secret Avengers' interference fell to the Shadow Council's top two operators, namely Steel and Max Fury. The Shadow Council was making a pact with Zheng Zu, helping to resurrect him as their end of the bargain for an alliance. It was up to Steele to sort out Rogers and Secret Avengers. To this end, he and Max abducted Sharon Carter, using her as leverage against Rogers to get their hands on Shang Chi, a necessary factor in Zheng Zu's resurrection. Ultimately, Steele was unable to completely shake the Secret Avengers off the Shadow Council's trail. The team intervened in Zheng Zu's ritual, preventing the resurrection. Steele was beaten by Valkyrie, discovering the hard way that he was not invulnerable against her sword.
As a result, Steele was apprehended and imprisoned in the Raft.
If I know any better, John Steele is basically an evil version of Captain America. Aaron Eckhart, who I seen cast as Cap in various fancasts before Chris Evans got the role, would be the perfect anti-Cap.
Fu Manchu is an oriental genius who is the master of modern science and the ancient mystical arts. He is the mastermind and leader of the Si-Fan cult. His main goal over the decades has been to destroy the western world. He was born in 1840. He was a scientist by nature. His quest for knowledge was insatiable. His genius drove him to discover things of a dark and unnatural nature. Nothing was out of bounds. His experiments led to things that were eventually regarded as forbidden and eventually led him to criminal activities as he also employed those of the dark arts to do his bidding. Anything he wanted or needed to complete his desires would be not denied him as he amassed untold wealth and unlimited resources.
Fu Manchu is also master of deception and disguise and used these skills in the western world and its politics which became his focus. He would plot to hypnotize politicians to perform in the service of Fu Manchu. He would kidnap note worthy scientists to perform their experiments to help aid in his quest for knowledge. These disappearances or accidental deaths ultimately caught the attention of MI 6,a british secret service. For decades Fu Manchu and his minions would wage war against M.I. 6 and most notably their agent Nayland Smith. Smith along with Dr Petrie and others were a constant thorn in the Evil Fu Manchu's side. As Smith and Petrie grew old through the decades, the evil Fu Manchu did not. The magical chemical called Elixir Vitae was discovered by the evil Fu Manchu decades ago and kept him from aging.
Fu Manchu has several children by blood and adoption. Some who work for him and some against his evil intentions. His daughter Fah Lo Suee would help or aid Fu Manchu';s enemies plot against him. They might in turn be willingly or unknowingly aiding her in her own machinations against her father. His son Shang - Chi is a master of kung-fu and other martial arts not unlike his father. He raised in his fathers Honan Retreat. It was upon his first mission where he was to assassinate an aged Dr. Petrie who was an evil man as told by his father, Shang - Chi met Sir Nayland Smith . Smith informed the young assassin that it was his father Fu Manchu who is the evil one and proceeded to tell him of what his father has done over the years. With that Shang- Chi confronted his father and swore his opposition and in turn His father swore that he after today he would use all that he had that was evil against him and parted as enemies.
Don't know much about this character, except that he was once known as Fu Manchu and that Marvel lost the rights, thereby earning him the name Zheng Zhu or Mr. Han. I picked Cary on a whim, because he looks a bit like the character.
OTHER CHARACTERS
The Worldmind is the primary source of knowledge, energy and power for the planet Xandar and the Nova Corps. The Xandarians have preserved the minds of their deceased brothers and sisters, linking them together in the Worldmind, creating a governing system unlike any across the Universe. During "Secret Avengers", when Nova was under control by an evil entity, Steve Rogers was inherited the Nova Force temporarily by the Worldmind and defeated Nova.
I see the Worldmind to be like Jor-El, and who better to take on the role than the man who played Jor-El himself, Terrence Stamp? His voice would be perfect, hands down.
Archon is the last surviving member of a group of beings who were built by The Watchers. Archon and his brethren were tasked with destroying an ancient dark force that seeks to obliterate the universe.
This one's a no-brainer. The original Michael Clarke Duncan, Kevin is an African-American voice actor who's really good at lending his booming voice to a variety of creatures, such as the Original Primes in Transformers 2, Terrador in The Legend of Spyro, Captain Gantu in Lilo & Stitch, Trigon in Teen Titans, Tartarus in Halo 2... I think I've better quit while I'm ahead. This is the guy for Archon if a Secret Avengers film ever trickles.
Nicholas Joseph Fury served in World War II as leader of the Howling Commandos. He's served as an agent of as well as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury is one of the greatest strategic minds in the Marvel Universe, a master of espionage, and a born leader.
Shang Chi is asleep when suddenly he senses that he is not alone. He wakes up to find several ninjas of the Hai-Dai order attacking. He fights well, but there are many. Fortunately, an ally appears in the form of the Prince of Orphans. He is there on the behest of Steve Rogers, and Shang-Chi is keen to discover why. Two days earlier, Hank passed a message to Steve Rogers from the Prince of Orphans. It concerned a temple he'd come across filled with dead monks. He had heard rumors that the Hai-Dai were responsible. Steve knew that the Hai-Dai were supposed to have disbanded, but the Prince informed Steve that they were looking for the Eyes of the Dragon, and if that was the case then there was trouble on its way. In the present, Shang-Chi joins Steve aboard the Secret Avengers' floating HQ. Shang is surprised to discover that his father might be alive, or at least on the verge of being brought back from the dead. Along with Steve and the Black Widow, Shang-Chi travels to Hong Kong where the team infiltrates the International Finance Centre on a mission to retrieve the eyes. Inside, they discover that they've been lured there on purpose and are attacked by more Hai-Dai ninjas. Elsewhere, Shang-Chi's father is with Shadow Council Director Thorn-Drake and Max Fury. He is half-way to being brought back fully from the dead. Fury receives a call. One of the Shadow Council's teams has found the real Eyes of the Dragon, so all that is needed now is to get their hands on Shang-Chi.
A choice inspired by OptimusPrime114. Jay did an amazing job as Kato in The Green Hornet, and if there were another comic book hero he would be amazing at, it would be that of Shang-Chi..
Be sure to leave comments. And coming up next: a fancast for Sailor Moon. I wish I could find a video, but I've read that Naoko Takeuchi was in some court battle and there's something about the rights to Sailor Moon. All I know is that Takeuchi-san might have plans to bring back the classic franchise, and I'm gonna celebrate with a fancast. And hopefully proof of the video that explains everything.
